Laukunleuka is a piece of jewelry that carries an Arctic story.
The piece is designed by students from University of Lapland, specially for the UArctic Congress 2018. Inka Kangasniemi, Tiina Mölsä and Petra Nurmela are studying Industrial Design and have come together at the university from different parts of Finland.
The piece and its engravings draw inspiration from traditional Sámi handicraft, also called laukunleuka in Finnish and čoarvi in Sámi. The Sámi use the same word for reindeer antlers. Laukunleuka was used on the mouth of a bag to give structure and to close the bag.
Our Laukunleuka is made of birch. With a magnet inside the piece you can wear Laukunleuka on your shirt or tie and why not decorate your house. Use your own imagination where to use it!
