Saamukas - Sámi tradition in children's cross-cultural design education - preliminary study project surveyed the archives of Sámi craftssmen, created a Sámi design education concept and piloted Sámi design education workshops in schools in the Lapland. The implementers of the project was Inka Kangasniemi, who came up with the project concept, the Sámi Archives of the National Archives of Finland and the Arts Promotion Centre Finland.
The project's design education was conceptualized based on the materials provided by the Sámi craftsmen for each workshop.
Workshops were organized with three different contents:
- Graphic design
- User-oriented design
- Aesthetics workshop
- User-oriented design
- Aesthetics workshop
student feedback collected after the workshops helped to develop the framework and content of the workshops during the project. According to the feedback from students and teachers, the design education workshops have been a welcome addition to the school and have brought a new perspective on the possibilities of design.
